I don't mean to be a spoilsport, but I think using real character's names and identities shouldn't be allowed on a roleplaying site. Stealing the identities of real Hogwarts students, to me, and to many others, is considered fanfiction. Also, with an imaginary character you can make up whatever you want! You don't have to follow any rules! Please don't send me hate mail.

I definitely DON'T second that.
A RPG is not the same as a fanfiction, in a RPG you're supposed to act as if you were a fictional character, made up by you or by the original author. Getting into other person's character who is not yourself.
A fanfiction is more of a literary work using characters made by another author. You're the writer, not the character.
In a RPG like this it is up to you if you want to be a made up character (if you don't want to follow any rules) or if you want to be one character from canon (as is my case)
If this was a RPG for made up characters, I would have never joined. If I joined was because I wanted to be Harry Potter (Or Snape, if Harry was already taken)
If using real character's names is "stealing" them, do you suggest to change the name of the Forums (Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, that is a real name) and of practically all its sections (Quidditch Pitch, Houses, Potions, Transfiguration, DADA, Hogsmeade, etc etc etc)?

Well, Bradley apologizes to the great Harry Potter. Here lets just stop for one second and look things over. You’re Harry Potter you’re a 6th year in Gryfinder and you’re the Seeker of the Gryfinder Quiditch team. Wait! Hold on, what do I see here? You’re not the Seeker? You’re the Chaser. Holy Crap! If I’m not mistaken the famous Harry Potter is suppose to be the Seeker. He is also supposed to be good at Defense Against the Dark Arts and be pretty crappy at Potions. I see none of these things. You see the problem with being a character out of the book is your characters life is completely laid out. You have an unfair advantage over other people because everyone knows everything about your character. Role playing is supposed to be you making up your characters and when you have that advantage over other people it’s not fun anymore.

Remember that I'm a 6th year, and we have no clue about what's going to happen next, just theories. Why are you so sure Harry is going to be Seeker on the next book? Anyway: You don't like real characters in RPGs. Perfect. You're not a canon character and you're happy with that. I like canon characters, therefore I chose to be one. Why is your opinion more valid than mine? Why do you think it would be more "fun" the way you want? What would you think if I said that made up characters shouldn't be allowed here? You would probably say that it is none of my business the characters you chose, since they are your personal choice. For me it is more fun being a character of the books, interacting with Ron, Hermione, Neville, Ginny, Snape, Dumbledore, Bellatrix, and many other Forum members with book names. For you it isn't fun, so you've chosen to not to be. What's wrong then? You are who you wanted to be, let the others be who they want to be as well.

I do not believe that the sake of having characters like Harry Potter is to make the storyline smoother. It will be set in sertain perementers. We probaly all arn't great writers so it wouldn't be as fun without already having a, "Past". Anyway thats my 2 cents.

i think that bradley is totally right. the whole point of the game is to make up a charter and then play them. this game is'nt for the charters from the book it's for your own made up charter. tibs

I am not trying to take sides here but assuming the identity of one of the characters from the book sets some major boundries. Harry, you didn't have any say in what your past was like, which to a lot of people takes away half the fun of this site. And as for your theories of harry not being a seeker in book six...well lets say that after the series is completed the story line takes a different turn than what you had chosen for your harry to do. That pretty much makes this harry a totally different person! so you might as well be a different character all together. I am not trying to bash the choice you made because obviously you are happy as a pre-fabricated character. i think the point people are trying to get across here is that being a character like harry is just less interesting and has too many boundries.

I think it doesnt matter unless your one of the charictors that is in the HP book. I think if you want to be a HP charitor then you just have to remember that you already have a past and have to abide by that. It doesnt realy afect me if there is or isnt any Harry Potter but I think that having somone play like Harry Potter and Dumbledore etc. it makes it seem more real!

But if they are not acting as Harry and Dumbledore really would then it would take away from the affect of 'real'

I Agree with Harry. I feel that as long as we are following the rules there is no problem with that. I love Ginny and I wanted to be Ginny. I put a little of my own ideas as to what Ginny might be doing in each RPG I do. I have taken Ginny to the next step so has Harry.
